Plants growing

It has been raining a lot in Berlin. Almost everyday, there are some rain or even thunder storm moment. It does feel like the climate is changing. Just some weeks before, it was super hot and dry and actually some of the baby indigo plants died. This week, it is a lot of rain, like Tsuyu Rainy season in Japan. It is a bit depressing for humans, gray chilly summer… but probably it is great for plants. Tagetes in natural dye garden is becoming jungle now.

The original soil here is very sandy. After the dry period when you introduce water, the water does not go into the soil but it just run-off the surface. For example, you water bucket full, the most of the water go down to lower part of the land and make a pond. And if you uncover just 5mm of the surface soil, it is all dry even the surface look a bit wet. This is very different when you have compost, humus rich soil. Thy observe water and it gets actually wet and keep the moisture. I added a lot of compost soil, especially where I planted the new baby seedlings to improve the moisture level. After the rain, I see the difference. The soil is very moist and it seems to be keeping it longer.
