Hello Bacteria!

The last week of July, I was at the Electric Wonderland hacker camp in Croatia. There I met Zoe, Giacomo and Alex who forms a microscope vj collective Melma Crew. I brought some Sukumo with me to the camp and we let it activated with warm water and looked at it with their super microscope.

This was truly an amazing moment for me. The brown water I have been mixing everyday for the last weeks… is actually really alive! I have been telling other people how the fermentation vat works with bacteria and how this is “more than human” collaborations… but I was also a bit in doubt if there are really someone in it. And here, there are full of life and movements!

And it is really impressive that people from centuries ago, even they can not see these bacteria, they still did not loose the faith that there are “something in there” and took care of the vat.

I used 25x + 40x lens (If I understood it correct) with Zoe’s microscope. That is 1000x magnification, which showed me the world of 1000 times smaller than what I see with my eyes!

The microscope is nicely “hacked” by Zoe to mount old mobile phone on it to take photos and movies. She and her team makes microscope live image jams for parties, with 2 microscopes and image mixer.
