Woad at the Elisabeet

Madlen planted woad last year at the Elisabeet and it is flowering really nicely now. This is a photo from May 20th. Woad is a 2 year plant and it flowers in 2nd year. In April, it looked like the photo below and I did not know that it suddenly gets so high and flowers so much. Originally I was thinking of transplanting these woad to our new color beet and experimenting the leaf. What I did not know is that the indigo pigment in the leaf significantly drops after flowering… so we probably can not expect any blue from these plants anymore. We will need to plant a new woad for this year.
