How to use a PH meter

Here is how to use the PH meter (we have at the Hütte, and is similar with other types of PH meters)

The probe/ sensor is inside the plastic cap. Please screw it out. This is because the sensor has to stay moist and should not dry out. The liquid inside is some chemical (it says in the package “electrode soaking solution”) that keeps the sensor moist, so please do not throw it out.

I wash the probe tip first in the water (the water bucket is placed next to the door) so the “electrode soaking solution” does not go into the vat.

Turn on the PH meter (button on the left bottom) and place the tip of the probe inside the Vat liquid and wait until the number is stable.

The temperature that shows here is not the temperature that it measures, but you can set the temperature (by measuring the liquid temp with an external thermometer) to make even more accurate measurements… we do not do this.

After using the PH meter, please wash the probe tip (otherwise it gets a lot of sukumo and brown water in the probe cap) and put the plastic cap back on. Make sure that the PH meter is turned off and place it back to the storage box.

External thermometer is inside the PH meter box. Please use this one to measure the Vat temperature (on/off button is the left top one).

PH meter is hidden beneath the Vat. I thought if someone comes in at night, they will not check what is under the vat… let’s see if this is a good strategy.
