Building a Garden Shed 3

June 7.

I got a message from the hardware shop where I ordered the shed that the floor board for the shed arrived. So, I and few friends decided to finish the shed spontaneously on this weekend.

The first thing we saw when we arrived at the gartenhaus is that someone tried the haus. The door was not locked but one side of the door was fixed (which was a part of the design of the door I guess) and probably this someone visited the haus wanted to open it and did not really figure out the mechanism. It looked like it was forced to push out and resulted the fixture came out. Well, it was a good test. It was not screwed in good enough. We fixed it with more screws and now it should not come out when you push it even “really” hard.

We brought in few more stone plates so the inside is filled, then filled the bap with wood chips that Elisabeet had. It looks more neat now. We were wondering if this will be a good apartment for mouse or other animals…. we will see in the winter.

Max came by and joined us building. We noticed the edge of the board needs to be cut exactly so it can fit with the pillar holding the wall. This became very finicky business. It was good that there was an battery powered zigsaw at the Elisabeet! We tried 3 times and finally we got the exact size and the floor board got in exactly to the edge! hurray!

In the mean time Ingo and Joel works on the last bits of the roof. We finished the rain protection foil last time but did not have time to mount the edge of the roof that fixes the foil. They put a lot of thoughts on how the foil should be ending at the edge so the rain does not get in between foil and the roof board. At the end, they folded over the roof edge and tuckered the foil to the board.

Ben and Suzi arrived shortly after the crazy thunder storm and brought us a wonderful homemade strawberry cake and coffee for a break! It tasted as it looks… it was delicious!

The floor has been very tricky as we have to cut off small pieces when the wall is not straight line. So many engineering went into fitting the floor and we did manage it at the end.

This was a very strange weather day. It was sometimes sunny and warm, then suddenly thunder and strong rain. We had two thunderstorm as we worked and every time we were happy that we had a roof over us. Also, the design of the roof foil is tested. The rain is dropping at the exact point it was intended.
