It stopped the fermentation process completely at the hutte, and I wanted to have at least one of them to be kept in not freezing room temperature during the winter. I transported the whole vat (the content was filled in 2x 32L bucket and transported in another 2 rides) with the cargo bike. I am coming to really like the cargo bike. It is now standing in my bathroom. Even in winter, it does not drop the temperature so much here and it should be safe. It is a bit strange to have such a big wooden barrel in my bathroom&#8230; I will live with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Normally, one can hibernate the vat during the winter, when it gets cold and it will come back when it is warm again in Spring&#8230;. theoretically. And we will try this with one of the vat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But in case this does not work&#8230; I wanted to have one of them in a bit milder temperature situation as plan B. The Berlin winter can be quite cold and it can go -10 degrees or less outside in the winter. I am curious how our vat will do. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am a bit afraid what will happen to the wooden barrel in cold winter outside. The instruction from the company who makes the barrel says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u00dcberwinterung: Bitte stellen Sie Ihr Fass auf keinen Fall in ein Geb\u00e4ude (Schuppen, Garage) oder unter ein Vordach. Das Fass ben\u00f6tigt Feuchtigkeit.<br>Richtig \u00fcberwintern Sie es drau\u00dfen im Garten, wo es angewettert werden kann. Es sollte umgedreht auf dem Kopf stehend \u00fcberwintert werden, am besten auf zwei H\u00f6lzern, damit es nicht direkt auf der Erde steht und sich F\u00e4ulnis bilden kann. Und ganz wichtig!!! Suchen sie einen schattigen Platz, z.B. unter einem Tannenbaum oder an der Nordseite eines Gartenh\u00e4uschens. Wenn Sie keinen wirklich schattigen Platz haben, sollte das Fass m\u00f6glichst sp\u00e4t entleert (vor starkem Frost) und m\u00f6glichst fr\u00fch wieder aufgestellt werden (Ende Februar), um Austrocknung durch starke Sonne zu vermeiden. Leichte Eisbildung schadet dem Fass nicht, wenn es allerdings komplett durchfriert, wird der Boden herausgesprengt und es ist kaputt. So. Wenn Sie das alles beherzigen, werden Sie ein neues Fass wohl fr\u00fchestens in 15 Jahren ben\u00f6tigen. Bis es soweit ist, hoffen wir darauf, dass Ihnen das Fass so gut gef\u00e4llt, dass Sie noch ein paar kaufen oder Ihre Nachbarn daf\u00fcr begeistern.
