Late afternoon: Room temperature 31, No blue\/rainbow shimmers anymore. PH 10.34 before mixing 10.77 after mixing. Temperature 23.7. It smells a bit like rotten smell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 17:00 PH 10.12 before mixing, 12.3 after mixing. Vat temperature 20 degrees. There are again the rainbow layer and the color test looks tiny bit of blue (the photo shows more blue than is). I am not sure if this rainbow layer is the start of the color or it is something else. I checked my old documentation and I felt like the PH should be higher from this rainbow layer until it gives the color… so I decided to add lime (although it is very scary as we suffered from too hi PH the last weeks!) I added 10g of lime and after mixing PH is 10.78. I guess it will get a bit higher in next hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 10:00 It has been very rainy and chilly gray days in Berlin. We skipped the mixing yesterday to see if longer interval makes difference. This morning, there are bigger rainbow patches. They are more like oil than copper shiny things that are the sign of indigo reduction. I have seen this rainbow thing before in a vat (see this documentation<\/a> day 22 and following days) I remember the rainbow things does not give color, but the color came after this went away. And I had to be careful with the PH as PH started to go lower with this. We should monitor PH carefully for the next days. (and now we have a new calibrated PH meter!). <\/p>\n\n\n\n Room temperature 18, Vat temp 19. 5 PH 10.3 before mixing, PH 10.7 temp 18 after mixing. No color on color test. no strong smell. <\/p>\n\n\n\n 19:30 Mixed by Madlen. She writes ” Happy vat and happy me with some blue moons” yes, it looks like blue moons. no color on color test. bubbles disappear quickly but feels like more bubbles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n 17:30. !!!! rainbow color spot! finally something is happening. PH 10.91 before mixing. under PH 11! no color on color test and PH goes up to 11.5 after mixing. It is rainy but warm day and vat temp is 23. <\/p>\n\n\n\n 16:30 Room temp 24, PH 11.26 (before mixing) 11.67 after mixing. no color on color test. PH is coming down! power of full moon?!<\/p>\n\n\n\n 11:00 PH 11.79 before mixing, 11.98 after mixing! it is coming down! vat temperature 19.3. it has been quite chilly this week and vat temperature is dropping under 20. Color test shows no color. Almost no smell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 9:30 PH 12.01 before mixing, 12.11 after mixing. again, bubbles separates after mixing. vat temperature 19.3<\/p>\n\n\n\n 19:50 mixed by Madlen. It feels like the ph went down?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Also, I found a bug in the bottom of the ash water I made yesterday. It is dead. sorry. But it looks beautiful on the ash. PH of this one is now 11.7<\/p>\n\n\n\n 10:30 PH 12.34 vat temp 23.4<\/p>\n\n\n\n 11:00 After the operation yesterday, PH still stays 12.5. It looks like changing 3L did not really impact. Today, I am making even bigger operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This time, I took out ~10L of vat water. It is only the top liquid part and it does not really contain sukumo. I put it a side in a bucket. I hope to marge this back to the vat once the vat start to work. In the mean time, I am cooking ~30L water. I take only 1\/3 of the ash in the ash-water bucket to a new bucket and pour hot water in it. This is my attempt to make weak ash water. As I guessed, the ash water with less ash is lower in PH. this one is only 9.33. I pour the rest of the hot water in the other bucket. this one is 10.6. Then I take the 3rd bucket and mix them into PH 10.5. (in retrospect, I am not sure if I should have even mixed it.. maybe I could have used 9.3 ?) Afterwards, I add this PH 10.5 ash water into the vat, slowly using small pot. It is also ~50 degrees. Immediately after, I measure the PH, and it is 11.9! but when I mix it, it is back to 12.24. Still a bit lower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 19:00: vat is mixed. I did not have a ph meter around so PH is not checked but I do not think there is a big change. I and Sarah cooked 100g of wheat bran and fed both of the vat. Mahlzeit!
