Day 10

Today, the sky is back to gray scale, and it is our working day. The morning did not start very well. Mag has been having trouble with microphone and Organelle. Organelle has two option to get the sound in: internal microphone and external sound-in. You switch them with the switch on the back panel. The last time Mag tried out Tapey patch, she could not get the external microphone to record samples. We thought it was due to how the patch is made, so I looked into the Tapey patch but I did not find the reason that it only records from internal microphone. This morning, Mag was trying out DJ patch record again, and it does not record either. It only takes internal microphone sound. The internal microphone picks up all the button manipulation sound so we do not want to use this. We are confused. why should it stop working suddenly!?

After reading forums, trying out changing the setting of audio I/O on PD, looking into preset files….. Ingo comes and points out that one of the device is off. !!! damn!!! the power plug of the loop pedal somehow came off from the distributor! The external microphone goes into Organelle through it so it was simply not going in! As we could hear the microphone through the amp, and sometimes internal microphone was picking up the external microphone sound through the environment, we did not notice it! We spent about two hours for NOTHING!! we felt a bit stupid….

After this shocking incident, we went for a walk for refresh and change the feeling. we went to the neighbor’s friendly horses to feed our leftover knäckebröd and record their sound.

But there is only one horse this time and he is not feeling friendly. Even it does not react to our lovely knäckebröd gift. No sound recording this time. We left the depressed horse alone and went back to home.

In the afternoon, I watch a tutorial of granular synth and try to understand what Tapey and Phase Vocoder patch is doing as we wanted to combine them. Tapey patch seems more complicated than I thought.

In the mean time, Mag is working with Organelle and her setting to find out how she would use them together… then she encounter a very strange problem. As she connects a MIDI TRS cable to get a sync from her looper, Organelle acts super strange. It slows down so much and it does not play sequence any more. Again we are confused. Back to reading forums again.

The strange symptom was that when she connects MIDI cable, it gets BPM but as she play, it changes from MIDI to LINK in the display. strange… what is LINK?! after playing around, we notice this happens only when wifi is on. After googling, I notice this comes from Ableton LINK option of Organelle. It was me who was shitting next to it, and opening different patches on my computer. PD patch I open was sending weird LINK signal to Mag’s Organelle!!! how stupid!

Now I turned off PD on my computer, and it is at least not receiving LINK signal. When we plug in MIDI cable, it only says MIDI. But it sounds like it is out of sync. It is slightly slower than the rest of the set. After reading more about it, it seems like some people had similar problem and pointing out that the USB MIDI input works better for sync. Luckily Mag had also the USB MIDI cable with her so we try it. Now it works better. the sync is not perfect, but at least the sequence starts with the beat.

We felt like today was the day that nothing works. We worked until quite late in the evening, totally exhausted.

One nice thing of this day: The flower is now blooming.
