Against Slugs

Slugs are a problem at the Elisabeet so as in many gardens in Europe (and probably in elsewhere in the world?). I made some research about what we can do to prevent slugs from eating all our plants. There are metal fences sold to protect garden plots from slugs, but this will be pricey. My friend had a wooden wall around her vegetables with scotch tape (sticky side out) all around the wall. This worked very well for her.

They seems to not to like copper (https://www.slughelp.com/copper-snails-slugs/). The idea of making a small ring or wall around the plant with copper tape or copper mesh sounds do-able.

Other interesting one is a sheep wool palette made to prevent slugs called SlugGone (https://www.sluggone.com/about-slug-gone/) . The idea that sheep wool making a wool wall protection around the plant and at the same time slowly giving nutrition to the plant is super cool.

After I wrote this post and was worrying about the slugs, Rene, who takes care of the garden professionally said there actually not a lot of slug in Elisabeet. So, I was relieved that we do not have to fight with slugs. On May 8th, as we cleared out weeds from flower beet space, we turned around a wood piece laying there and found a slug family with eggs! I guess the Elisabeet is not slug free… though I agree with Rene that there are very less slugs compare to what I know from other gardens in Europe.
