Plants log

July 14

It has been raining almost every day for the last 2 weeks. It is a shitty summer for human but maybe great for the plants. The indigo leaf is getting really big, some are as long as my hand now. They are no getting very tall and it seems like it gets knocked by the rain.

Natural dye plants garden is also looking very green and healthy. Tagetes are definitely getting bigger and now Dyers cosmos started to bloom. Madlen said we can harvest and dye with fresh flower (but we need more than just a few) or we can harvest and dry them to use it later. We will need to set up a drying system for them at the Hütte.

Some blue flower is blooming at the Natural dye garden now. I do not know what they are. I have to ask Madlen. The plant on the right front is tomato. No, it is not a dye plant.. it came out without us seeding it.. Tomato in the color garden is a weed plant. We are hoping that maybe it gives a nice tomato fruit at least?!

Some 3rd batch small plants are now picking up and getting bigger suddenly. Some are hit by rain and on the ground, so I made extra “tsuchi-yose” gathering soil around the plant so they stand up. I noticed some of them are eaten quite a lot. and some have disappeared completely. It seems like there are someone in the garden who likes to eat indigo plants.
